For Hear’s My Story: Senior Voices in Greensboro, students in Benjamin Filene’s Museum and Historic Site Interpretation class collaborated with Senior Resources of Guilford and its Greensboro Senior Center. The students recorded two-dozen oral interviews with the seniors, asking them to reflect on their lives and on the changes they had witnessed in the world around them. The seniors’ stories formed the centerpiece of a museum exhibition at the Greensboro Historical Museum that the students researched, designed, and installed. Students created a companion book that documented the exhibit content, while the interviews were archived at the museum and UNCG’s archives. As well students supported the project by writing a successful grant application to the North Carolina Humanities Council.
