Echoes from the Past: The Lives of Jewish Children During the Holocaust in Ukraine
October 22 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Speaker: Dr. Nataliia Ivchyk
Dr. Ivchyk is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Sciences & International Relations at Rivne State University for the Humanities (Ukraine)
What did it mean to be a Jewish child during the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Ukraine? How did Nazi genocidal policies target Jewish children, leading to the deaths of 1.5 million young people? Dr. Nataliia Ivchyk will discuss how children were not passive victims but rather individuals with unique experiences according to their age, family situation, and environment. She also will address how Jewish children of the Holocaust are remembered in Ukraine today.
This event honors Greensboro resident Shelly Weiner, one of the few Jewish child survivors of the Holocaust from Rivne, Ukraine. The talk will highlight the experiences of Shelly and her family members.
